MDPE has a pressure rating of 12 bar up to pipe diameter of 63mm and 10 bar for 90mm and 110mm pipe diameter.
A range of pipe fittings are available for use with MDPE pipe.
MDPE pipe is often referred to as alkathene pipe or pe pipe.
For long overground runs Black MDPE pipe is used to prevent light ingress, other uses include irrigated land systems and light industrial use.
Barrier pipe is an MDPE pipe with an inner liner normally metallic, designed to allow the safe transportation of water through brownfield sites and other types of contaminated land. These sites may have been exposed to organic, inorganic, corrosive and toxic elements which could contaminate the mains water supply.
